About the Role
The position provides technical design and CADD support to engineers and project managers across planning, transportation, infrastructure, and technical services business lines. Responsibilities include generating CADD designs for moderate‑ to large‑scale projects and delivering accurate design‑phase deliverables—reports, technical memoranda, design manuals, plans, profiles, models, sections, details, specifications, and material lists—while meeting or exceeding industry standards for quality, accuracy, and functionality. The designer will collect and analyze data from physical sites, surveys, blueprints, schematics, and other sources to support drafting and design for single‑ or multi‑phase projects. Using 3D CADD software, they will work closely with engineers to resolve design details, ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations, verify calculations, and provide technical guidance, while monitoring quality control and documenting progress. They will also collaborate with cross‑functional teams, engage with clients and contractors as needed, and mentor entry‑level drafting staff. • Draft and design site civil elements for electrical utility and renewable energy projects, including grading, erosion control, stormwater management, and access roads. • Generate 3D CADD drawings, plans, profiles, models, specifications, and material lists for moderate to large‑scale projects. • Collect and analyze site data, surveys, and technical drawings to support design activities. • Ensure designs comply with city, state, and federal codes and WSP’s design standards. • Verify calculations, resolve design discrepancies, and provide technical guidance to engineering teams. • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, clients, and contractors to coordinate drafting and design reviews. • Mentor and train entry‑level drafting staff and stay current with industry best practices.

Candidates must hold at least a high‑school diploma and have a minimum of nine years of relevant post‑education experience in drafting and design support. Required competencies include a solid understanding of drafting principles, relevant codes and regulations, technical calculations, analytical problem‑solving, strong communication, self‑leadership, attention to detail, and proficiency with technical writing, software tools, and spreadsheets. A proven safety record, flexibility to work extended schedules, and occasional travel are also required. A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and professional licensure are preferred.
