Gate Attendant/Scale Operator

About the Role

A Gate Attendant/Scale Operator is responsible for accurately and efficiently monitoring and recording waste volumes entering the post‑collection site, as well as collecting appropriate usage fees from customers. The role ensures that waste entering the facility is properly identified, billed, and documented. Accurate record‑keeping and receipt handling are essential to the position. • Determine content of material entering the facility to properly bill the customer. • Accept or reject waste loads based on content and suggest alternatives for special or atypical waste. • Receive payment from customers and provide receipts. • Balance daily receipts, ensure accurate recordkeeping, and deposit cash into the safe depository. • Document waste using truck scales and computer systems, tracking total volumes. • Notify operations of special waste loads, dispatch as needed, and process required paperwork. • Answer telephone calls and provide general information to callers. • Maintain cleanliness of the work area.
