About the Role

• Assist Construction Manager, Resident Project Representative, and/or Construction Engineer with project execution • Review and verify construction schedules; help prepare cost estimates and specifications • Perform engineering tasks using spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling software • Work independently on small projects or support senior staff on larger projects • Direct clerical and technical personnel as needed • Observe and document civil construction progress (roads, bridges, rail, water/wastewater, pump stations, pipelines) • Monitor, record, and inspect construction progress • Conduct or coordinate field material sampling and testing (concrete slump, air testing, casting cylinders, soil compaction) • Observe foundation installation including pile driving and drilled shafts • Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications; identify discrepancies • Compose daily activity logs, personnel reports, and photos for clients

What You Bring

The position may require 25‑50% travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections outside the St. Louis and/or Kansas City area, with the possibility of long‑term project assignments, and work outdoors in all seasons. Preferred qualifications include strong people skills, the ability to obtain or hold an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate, a valid driver’s license, and prior construction experience or internships; local candidates are preferred and DOT Certified Inspector certification is a plus. Required qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or a related field, knowledge of MS Office, Primavera, scheduling software, spreadsheets and databases, interest or experience in construction, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture. • Travel 25‑50% of the time to meetings, site visits, and inspections outside St. Louis/Kansas City; possible long‑term assignments • Work outdoors in all seasons • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with HDR team, clients, and contractors • Pass drug‑screening and be subject to random testing • Professional demeanor with clients • Valid driver’s license • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or commitment to obtain it for career progression • Prior construction experience or internships (preferred) • Local candidate preference • Basic knowledge of survey equipment • DOT Certified Inspector certification (a plus) • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field • Proficiency with MS Office, Primavera, scheduling software, spreadsheets, and databases • Interest or experience in construction • Excellent oral and written communication skills
