About the Role
Key responsibilities include providing pre‑construction support, managing submittal and RFI processes for specific definable features of work (DFW), and evaluating project design and engineering documents for organization and distribution. The engineer will conduct research on living arrangements for project teams, prepare turnover binder templates, assist with pre‑mobilization kickoff meetings, and compile short‑form subcontracts with local entities for power, trailers, housing, and other site needs. Additional duties involve drafting subcontracts and purchase agreements, utilizing the Best Practice Database for safety work instructions and quality documents, and overseeing quality assurance/quality control per the Project Quality Plan. The role also manages inventory upon material arrival, coordinates inspections, punch‑list activities, mechanical/electrical/plumbing drawings, lift and formwork drawings, production logs, and event‑management incidents. The engineer administers closeout processes, compiles turnover documentation, supports final inspections, provides submittal register updates, and participates in safety audits and Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program. • Manage pre‑construction support, submittal and RFI processes for defined work features. • Evaluate and organize project design and engineering documents for distribution. • Research and arrange living accommodations, power, trailers, housing, and short‑form subcontracts for site teams. • Draft subcontracts and purchase agreements; utilize Best Practice Database for safety and quality documentation. • Oversee QA/QC per the Project Quality Plan, including inventory inspection, material receipt, and storage. • Coordinate inspections, punch‑list activities, and creation of lift and formwork drawings. • Maintain production logs, track safety or quality incidents, and administer closeout documentation. • Support final inspections, provide submittal register updates, and participate in safety audits and Zero Injury programs.

What You Bring
Mortenson is seeking an experienced Field Engineer for its Civil group who can interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, demonstrating flexibility, resourcefulness, proactivity, efficiency, professionalism, and confidentiality. The role involves supporting and completing the full cycle of field coordination issues with team members, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers. This position requires 100% travel across the United States, with rotations home every three weeks for five days, and can be based anywhere in the country. Qualifications require a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and extensive technical/field experience. Candidates must be detail‑oriented, possess a basic understanding of construction law and business practices, demonstrate strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving skills, maintain a professional attitude, and hold a current driver’s license. • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical experience with strong detail orientation and knowledge of construction law. • Demonstrate teamwork, communication, problem‑solving abilities, a professional attitude, and possess a valid driver’s license.
