About the Role
The role involves leading the mechanical team, collaborating with market leaders, engaging clients and stakeholders, supporting marketing and proposal efforts, promoting HDR’s practice, and overseeing project delivery and operational quality. • Lead the Nebraska/Iowa mechanical engineering team, driving technical excellence, quality, recruiting, and staff development. • Collaborate with market sector leaders to ensure excellence across commercial, civic, industrial, federal, water, transportation, healthcare, education, laboratory, and mission‑critical projects. • Engage clients and community stakeholders to build relationships and understand project needs. • Contribute to marketing, planning, proposal development, and interview processes in key markets. • Promote HDR’s mechanical engineering practice within the engineering and architecture community through conferences and client interactions. • Serve as design lead or engineering project manager on major projects. • Oversee mechanical workgroup operations, including profitability, morale, quality control, and staff development. • Ensure all work follows proactive project‑management processes: planning, organization, control, review, and evaluation. • Implement and monitor company policies across the mechanical practice. • Collaborate with business class directors, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers on business initiatives. • Participate in nationwide work‑sharing and mechanical practice development with HDR engineers. • Active involvement in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR’s technical expertise and brand.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline, possess a professional engineering license, have ten years of experience, and demonstrate a proven record of leading diverse teams while embodying HDR’s commitment to quality and its employee‑owned culture; a master’s degree and local residency are preferred. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field (master’s preferred). • Maintain a professional engineering registration and have at least 10 years of relevant experience. • Demonstrated experience leading and developing diverse engineering teams. • Preference for candidates with a master’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus and local residency.
