About the Role
The Automation Engineer supports the site maintenance team to ensure operational performance and efficiency of material handling equipment (MHE) control systems. This includes troubleshooting conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, labeling printers, scales, HMIs, control cabinets and related hardware while collaborating with operations and maintenance to implement solutions and lead projects in a modern, climate‑controlled environment. • Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures. • Provide guidance on maintaining material handling control systems, industrial motor control systems, servo and frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems. • Troubleshoot and modify software for PLC/PC controllers (Allen Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix) using Rockwell software and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, and AS‑I. • Act as first‑level escalation support for automation issues and coordinate with vendors or network teams to restore equipment operation. • Monitor MHE metrics, resolve electrical problems, and perform control‑system assessments to improve equipment reliability. • Partner with operations leadership, equipment vendors, and parts suppliers to plan and coordinate new technology installations as a technical consultant for capital projects. • Communicate technical issues and project timelines to building leadership, operations, and maintenance teams, explaining production impacts.

What You Bring
The role requires physical ability to work overhead, kneel, squat, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lb, and move between floors, averaging 6‑12 miles of travel per day. Work is performed in a warehouse environment with fluctuating temperatures while wearing required personal protective equipment. Candidates should have at least three years of experience (or a relevant degree plus experience) in programming and commissioning HMIs, PLCs, VFDs, SCADA systems, and supporting conveyors and sortation equipment. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply and join a team that makes a difference. • 3+ years experience (or 2‑year degree plus 1 year) in programming/commissioning HMIs, PLCs, VFDs, SCADA systems and KPIs. • Ability to read and modify mechanical and electrical drawings. • Experience supporting a range of conveyors and sortation systems. • Knowledge of equipment control components such as relays, motor starters, VFDs, and HMIs. • High school diploma or equivalent, with a positive attitude and strong problem‑solving skills. • Associate’s degree in Electronic Technology or similar, or Bachelor’s degree in a STEM‑related field (preferred). • 4+ years experience in electrical field or control‑systems development, troubleshooting, and programming (preferred). • 4+ years supporting advanced automation controls systems maintenance and development (preferred). • 3+ years experience with a wide range of conveyors and sortation systems (preferred). • Leadership and project‑management experience (preferred).
