About the Role
The Business Development Leader for HDR’s Southern California Transportation Business Group works with management to identify, develop, and direct opportunities across highway, transit, freight rail, aviation, and maritime sectors. Covering Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and Orange County, the role cultivates relationships with existing and prospective clients while monitoring market trends, competitors, and legislative funding mechanisms. Key duties include expanding client relationships, partnering with internal leaders to create and execute strategic plans, and guiding pursuit activities from capture planning through proposal development and interview phases. The role also coordinates conference participation, sponsorships, and marketing collateral, and leads quality reviews of proposals to align with Net Fees Booked goals. • Manage and expand client relationships across Southern California transportation sectors. • Conduct market analysis, track trends, competitors, and legislative funding issues. • Lead pursuit efforts including capture planning, proposal development, and interview phases. • Coordinate industry conference participation and sponsorship opportunities to promote HDR’s brand. • Collaborate with marketing services to produce collateral such as qualification packages and specialty brochures. • Support development and execution of annual and long‑term strategic plans and growth initiatives.

What You Bring
Ideal candidates bring deep knowledge of A/E/C procurement, a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and at least 15 years of transportation consulting experience, with a proven record of business development success. Required qualifications include a minimum of eight years of relevant industry experience, strong communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign, and the ability to travel and motivate diverse teams. • Possess deep knowledge of A/E/C procurement and at least 15 years transportation consulting experience (preferred). • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management or related field. • Demonstrated self‑starter attitude with a record of winning high‑value contracts and motivating teams. • Excellent verbal and written communication; proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign. • Willingness to travel and engage with clients in‑person.
