About the Role

The Fleet Maintenance Manager oversees fleet equipment across one or more locations, leading a team of technicians responsible for preventive maintenance and repair of up to 60 diesel and alternative fuel vehicles. This role also may include managing equipment at post collection facilities and container shops, ensuring all work complies with safety standards and federal and state regulations. The manager plans and schedules repair work to maximize safety, timeliness, and productivity while minimizing shop downtime. Key responsibilities include directing technicians and lead staff, overseeing repair scheduling and overtime, monitoring shop performance, and implementing process improvements. The manager conducts daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching, hiring, termination, and performance evaluations, while also maintaining preventive maintenance programs and controlling costs. Coordination with external repair facilities and quality control inspections ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements. • Direct all technician levels and lead technicians, manage Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, ensure safe, efficient, timely repairs. • Oversee planning and scheduling of repair work, increase productivity, and manage department overtime. • Monitor shop performance, report to management, and implement process improvements for efficiency. • Lead daily shop huddles and fleet walks, coach staff, make hiring and termination decisions with HR. • Manage employee training, performance evaluations, merit increases, promotions, and employee engagement. • Maintain preventive maintenance program, identify trends, control maintenance costs, and oversee facility upkeep. • Manage outside repair facilities, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and follow up on work. • Conduct quality control inspections, track issues, and ensure resolution according to company procedures. • Apply advanced knowledge of engine, emission, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems for maintenance and repair. • Oversee engine chassis repairs, vehicle body control systems, HVAC systems, and welding of heavy equipment. • Administer team payroll, employee records, maintenance documentation in Dossier Maintenance Software, and budget preparation. • Travel locally as required to support fleet maintenance operations.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least three years of maintenance supervisory experience in transportation, a solid understanding of OSHA and other safety regulations, and strong analytical, organizational, and financial planning skills. Required qualifications include basic computer proficiency, advanced problem‑solving abilities, professional communication, customer service focus, and ASE certifications (T2 Diesel Engine, T3 Drive, T4 Brake, T5 Suspension/Steering). A high school diploma or GED is required. • Proficient with basic computer skills and Microsoft Office. • Advanced root cause problem‑solving abilities. • Effective professional communication and strong customer service orientation. • Ability to anticipate business needs and efficiently allocate equipment, employee, and fiscal resources. • High analytical skill to develop multiple solutions for varied issues. • Strong organizational, collaborative, and employee engagement skills. • Good financial management and planning; ability to interpret budgets, tables, and reports. • ASE T2 Diesel Engine, T Master Certified; T3 Drive, T4 Brake, T5 Suspension and Steering certifications. • High school diploma or GED required.
