About the Role
The Heavy Equipment Technician performs repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, compact heavy equipment, light service equipment, and light trucks. Typical repairs include preventative maintenance inspections, hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brakes, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems. Technicians read and interpret equipment condition reports and repair orders, communicate with supervisors or operators for clarification, discuss preventive techniques, complete paperwork, record consumables, and collect analyses from oil sampling and fleet management software while following all safety policies and performing engine overhauls. • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on heavy and light equipment. • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical, diesel, and gasoline vehicles (e.g., compactors, excavators, loaders). • Interpret equipment condition reports and repair orders, and coordinate with supervisors or operators. • Complete work orders, consumables reports, and document parts usage and labor times. • Collect and analyze oil samples and data from onboard computers and fleet management software. • Follow all safety policies, including OSHA Hazard Communication, Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out, and fire protection. • Conduct engine overhauls on gas or diesel engines. • Participate in Employee Assistance Program and employee discount programs.

What You Bring
The role requires advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems, performing preventative maintenance on electrical, diesel and gasoline vehicles such as compactors, excavators, and wheel loaders, covering engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, hydraulic, brake, electrical, suspension, wheels, tires, and undercarriages. Candidates must hold ASE certifications in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical, drivetrain, suspension, steering, and wheel‑end components, have at least one year of heavy‑equipment experience, a Mechanical Trade School certificate or degree, an electrical diagnostics certificate, knowledge of Tier 4 emission systems, welding/fabrication skills, and OSHA Hazard Communication, Lock‑Out‑Tag‑Out, and fire protection training. • Hold ASE certifications in air brakes, tires, hydraulics, electrical, drivetrain, suspension, steering, and wheel‑end components. • Possess at least one year of heavy‑equipment technician experience and a Mechanical Trade School certificate or degree. • Certified in electrical diagnostics and knowledgeable about Tier 4 emission systems. • Skilled in welding and/or fabrication.
