About the Role

As part of HDR’s Transportation Business Group, the South Florida Aviation Construction Services Manager will lead the aviation construction practice from the Fort Lauderdale office, overseeing airside and landside construction services, construction management, resident project representation, project controls, inspection oversight, and quality assurance. The role combines business development, strategic planning, staffing, resource management, and financial oversight with on‑site leadership, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations, safety standards, and HDR’s health‑and‑safety program while driving risk mitigation and client engagement. • Serve as a seller‑doer for current and future airport projects in the South Florida market • Develop and execute strategies to expand construction services capabilities and resources • Lead staffing plans, recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and performance management for construction services and inspection staff • Partner with Area/Regional leaders to align services with client needs and market opportunities • Act as Lead Resident Project Representative (RPR) on active construction projects, ensuring contract compliance, quality, safety, and documentation standards • Administer daily coordination of construction services and inspection activities with contractors and subcontractors • Perform constructability reviews and value engineering during design phases • Coordinate local bidder interests and manage submittals, RFIs, pay applications, change orders, and field directives • Oversee materials testing in collaboration with certified laboratory testing firms • Develop scope, schedule, and budget for construction phase services; monitor performance and forecast outcomes • Control construction services budgets and schedules; prepare project schedules, pay requests, and regular progress reports • Ensure compliance with FAA regulations, advisory circulars (e.g., AC 150/5370‑10), safety standards, environmental requirements, and HDR’s Health & Safety Program • Implement risk identification and mitigation strategies to reduce delays or disruptions • Monitor design progress relative to construction requirements and sequencing • Serve as primary point of contact with airport authorities and aviation stakeholders • Build and maintain strong client relationships; lead pursuit strategies and proposal development for construction services work

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field, possess at least two years of construction planning and management experience, be proficient with Microsoft Office and construction software tools, and demonstrate a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture; sponsorship for a U.S. work visa is not available. • Obtain required security badges for South Florida airports • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida or ability to obtain quickly • Preferred: 8+ years of aviation construction management experience delivering airside and/or landside projects • Preferred: Experience with both public and private aviation clients and deep knowledge of FAA AC 150/5370‑10 specifications • Preferred: Strong communication, leadership, and client‑service skills • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Construction Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) • Required: Minimum 2 years of experience in construction planning and management, including field engineering, submittals, estimating, scheduling, and site safety • Required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software (e.g., Procore, Prolog, Primavera, Bluebeam)
