About the Role
The Structural Welder creates frames for large structures, setting up equipment and welding pipe, plate, or structural steel using arc, gas‑shielded arc, or gas welding equipment. The role requires producing quality work with reasonable efficiency, obtaining certifications as needed, and learning all safety hazards related to the work. The welder must safely operate tools and equipment in plant operations or construction job‑site settings. Key duties include cutting and drilling structural metal pieces to size, positioning them for welding, and ensuring welds meet safety and industry standards. The welder also performs simple piping installations and repairs and assists other mechanics or craft workers as required. Physical requirements involve regularly lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 lb (occasionally up to 100 lb), repetitive use of hands and arms, and maintaining balance on steel or wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. The job may require climbing, walking on uneven or muddy terrain, working in confined spaces, and exposure to adverse weather while operating electric, gas, and pneumatic tools. • Cut and drill structural metal pieces to size and place into position for welding • Ensure welds are well executed and meet safety and industry standards • Perform simple piping installations and repairs • Assist other mechanics/craft workers as needed
