About the Role

The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and overhauling mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, graders, and conveyors used in construction and surface mining. The role requires a working knowledge of DC electrical systems, the ability to provide personal tools, and strict adherence to safety hazards and proper tool usage. Work is performed on plant operations or construction job sites. • Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles. • Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects. • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts. • Fit bearings and overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. • Read and interpret operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings. • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear. • Test repaired or assembled equipment to ensure proper performance and specification compliance. • Assist other craft workers as needed.

What You Bring

The position demands significant physical effort, including lifting up to 50 lb (occasionally 100 lb), climbing, balancing on scaffolds, and working in uneven, muddy, or adverse weather conditions, as well as the ability to use hand, power, electric, gas, and pneumatic tools. Mental requirements include effective communication with supervisors, basic math and calculation skills, attention to detail, decision‑making ability, and concentration amid distractions. The mechanic must also be capable of driving cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipment as needed.
