About the Role

• Read and interpret load charts • Interpret hand signals to determine where materials are to be placed • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities for tools and equipment • Perform daily inspections on equipment including checking fluids, refueling, adding fluids, and assess component wear • Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment and supplies • Assist other craft workers as needed

What You Bring

The Light Equipment Operator must have the ability and experience to operate hand‑held mechanical devices used on a project site. They will operate one or more pieces of equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, front‑end loaders, backhoes, forklifts, graders, diggers, drills, generators, saws, and pumps. The role requires learning and understanding all safety hazards, and safely using or operating work‑related tools and equipment. Work will be performed in plant operations or construction jobsite settings. The position requires physical stamina to push, pull, lift or carry up to 50 lb (occasionally up to 100 lb), and to perform repetitive hand/arm and leg movements. Operators must be able to drive cars, trucks, forklifts and other equipment, use hand and power tools, climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, ladders and steel/wood frameworks, and work on uneven or adverse terrain, including confined spaces and extreme weather. Communication skills—including hearing, speaking, reading and writing—are essential for safety and supervision, as is the ability to follow directions, make decisions, stay detail‑oriented, and concentrate amid distractions.
