About the Role
The Leading Hand will manage an Estate Upkeep team that carries out trades work and routine maintenance across Defence sites. Key duties include capturing KPI and performance metrics, providing asset condition data, ensuring work meets required standards, and identifying and managing associated risks. • Lead and supervise an Estate Upkeep trade team delivering maintenance on Defence sites. • Capture and report KPI and performance metrics for estate work. • Provide accurate asset condition data and ensure compliance with standards. • Identify and mitigate risks associated with works delivery.

What You Bring
We are now recruiting for a permanent Leading Hand – Estate Upkeep position at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville, with the role commencing in February 2026. Applicants must hold a relevant Trade Certificate (Carpentry, Plumbing or Electrical), a Queensland trade licence and a current open driver’s licence. Additional expectations are a solid background in trade work with leadership and maintenance supervision experience, knowledge of asset compliance techniques, and the ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizenship is mandatory). A Building Maintenance Leadership Certification is desirable. • Hold a relevant Trade Certificate (Carpentry, Plumbing or Electrical) and a Queensland trade licence. • Demonstrate leadership experience in maintenance supervision. • Possess knowledge of asset compliance and management techniques. • Maintain a current open driver’s licence and be eligible for Defence Security Clearance (Australian citizen). • Desirable: Building Maintenance Leadership Certification.
