About the Role
Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor or Manager, the Maintenance Lead Technician directs a team of technicians to ensure all equipment repairs and maintenance meet the Company's safety standards and applicable federal and state regulations. The role covers chassis (diesel and non‑diesel) and refuse bodywork, including hydraulic, electrical, heating and air‑conditioning systems. The Lead Technician diagnoses complex repair issues, coaches subordinate technicians on diagnostic techniques, and performs external repair inspections for safety. Additionally, they schedule work for their group to reduce lost productivity and maintain timely, safe operations. The Lead Technician possesses expert knowledge of chassis components, refuse bodies, air and hydraulic braking, engine systems, suspension, drivetrain, steering, and HVAC, enabling performance of complex repairs both on‑site and on the road. Responsibilities include line welding and fabrication, directing technicians to ensure safe and efficient work, inspecting third‑party vendor repairs for compliance, and troubleshooting advanced malfunctions with electronic tools. The role also involves completing required company training, acting as an interim Maintenance Supervisor when needed, and mentoring team members. • Perform complex chassis, hydraulic, electrical, HVAC, and refuse body repairs on diesel and non‑diesel equipment. • Diagnose and troubleshoot advanced mechanical and electronic issues using specialized tools. • Conduct line welding and fabrication to support repair operations. • Direct and mentor a team of technicians, scheduling work to minimize shop downtime. • Inspect third‑party vendor repairs for compliance with safety and regulatory standards. • Complete required company training and act as interim Maintenance Supervisor when needed. • Maintain expertise in air/hydraulic braking, engine, suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems. • Ensure adherence to OSHA HazCom, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, and fire protection regulations.

What You Bring
Candidates must be able to inspect and repair heavy‑truck systems such as suspensions, steering, engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drivetrain, and diesel emissions with minimal supervision. Minimum requirements include at least three years of heavy‑truck technician experience; supervisory or lead experience, ASE Heavy‑Truck certifications, and a Class B CDL are preferred but not required. Knowledge of OSHA HazCom, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, and fire protection regulations is advantageous, and a valid driver’s license is required. • Minimum three years experience as a heavy‑truck technician. • At least one year supervising or leading a maintenance crew (preferred). • ASE Heavy‑Truck certifications (T1‑T8) – preferred. • Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License – preferred. • Knowledge of suspensions, steering, engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drivetrain, diesel emissions. • Valid driver’s license.
