Lab Manager

About the Role

• Promote laboratory safety, ensure proper PPE use, and oversee equipment calibration and maintenance. • Ensure compliance with corporate Quality Management Systems and laboratory accreditation policies (AASHTO, CMEC, A2LA). • Manage geotechnical and construction materials testing activities, including scheduling and supervision of technicians. • Oversee routine soils tests (e.g., Atterberg limits, gradation, swell, moisture content, UCS, proctor) and concrete tests (sample labeling, curing, temperature monitoring, breakage). • Prepare and review test reports, perform data reduction and calculations. • Mentor and train lab staff, coordinate technician schedules, and support project and department managers. • Collaborate on staffing, business development, marketing, and client outreach.

The role focuses on quality control and managing junior staff in the construction materials testing laboratory to meet departmental goals. • High school diploma or GED with 4+ years of construction materials laboratory experience. • Current basic concrete and/or soils lab certifications, with willingness to maintain them. • Ability to lift 60–80 lb and strong verbal, written, and reading communication skills. • Proficiency in laboratory equipment, ASTM testing standards, data interpretation, and QMS implementation. • Demonstrated leadership, decision‑making, and team‑building abilities. • Knowledge of ECS systems and procedures is a plus.
