About the Role
• Support specification projects by resolving technical and administrative issues. • Advise architectural design firms on product selection and design considerations. • Review drawings and project data to write, edit, and coordinate construction specifications for compliance with guidelines, standards, and codes. • Plan, schedule, and prepare specifications for each project phase and milestone. • Develop procurement and contracting requirements, including Division 01 General Requirements. • Coordinate consultant technical specifications to ensure conformity with firm standards and formatting conventions. • Research products and assist designers with material and product selections. • Collaborate with internal architects and non‑architectural disciplines (structural, landscape) on specifications and project manuals. • Stay current on building technology, product developments, code changes, and industry trends to advise project teams. • Assist construction administration by reviewing submittals, evaluating substitution requests, and recommending compliance actions. • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work independently or in teams. • Host or attend client project discussions and follow up on reports. • Collaborative nationwide facilities consulting practice with over 180 technical experts.

What You Bring
ECS is seeking an experienced Specification Writer to join its Southwest Facilities team in San Antonio, Texas. The role guides design teams on product selection, prepares and edits construction specifications, and ensures compliance with codes and standards throughout all project phases. Ideal candidates are detail‑oriented professionals with a solid background in architecture or construction and a passion for staying current on building technologies and industry trends. • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science or related field preferred. • Minimum six years of architectural or commercial interiors experience. • At least three years of experience writing, editing, and developing AIA MasterFormat three‑part specifications. • Membership in the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI); CDT certification a plus; CCS, LEED AP, or a licensed architect/engineer also advantageous. • Valid driver’s license if driving for any ECS subsidiary. • Ability to research product materials, manufacturers, and fabricators for architectural projects. • Strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, construction methodology, design trends, building systems, and supplier suitability. • Proficiency reading construction drawings, programs, criteria documents, details, and specifications. • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word), Bluebeam Revu & Studio, Adobe Acrobat; AutoCAD and Revit proficiency a plus.
