About the Role
The Substation Project Engineer is responsible for the technical aspects and deliverables of assigned projects, handling work of basic to moderate complexity. This role involves developing design deliverables, preparing drawings and specifications, and coordinating with multiple disciplines. • Design substation layouts, material lists, conduit and cable routing, grounding, and equipment wiring diagrams. • Produce engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, and reports for low, medium, and high‑voltage substations. • Create equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing. • Coordinate design efforts with civil, structural, and transmission line teams. • Assign tasks, guide junior engineers, and oversee quality‑control reviews of their work. • Collaborate with senior engineers and business leaders to develop technical expertise through training and seminars. • Conduct independent quality‑control reviews of other teams’ projects as needed. • Mentor and supervise less‑experienced EITs and designers. • Perform site visits during design, construction, and as‑built phases.

What You Bring
• Meet preferred qualifications: B.S. in Electrical or Architectural Engineering (with electrical focus), California PE license, ≥5 years substation design experience, and strong AutoCAD/MicroStation/CDEGS skills. • Meet required qualifications: B.S. in Engineering, PE or P.Eng license, power‑market sector project execution experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office and design software (e.g., PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit), and commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture. • Travel occasionally; local candidates to Irvine, CA preferred; utility consulting background considered a plus.
