About the Role

Job Requisition ID # 26WD94901 Position Overview As an AI for AEC Research Intern within Autodesk Research, you will play a pivotal role in envisioning and prototyping collaborative, multi-agent AI workflows grounded in real-world AEC project constraints and design goals. You will work alongside an applied research team with deep expertise in architecture, construction, and computer science. In this role, you will develop experimental AI prototypes, explore novel design-decision workflows, and help shape future software capabilities. You will also have opportunities to present and publish your work, influencing both internal research directions and the broader AEC + AI community. • Develop and evaluate a real-world AEC design use case, supporting design decisions through a collaborative, multi-agent AI workflow. • Iteratively prototype, test, and refine AI-driven workflows, documenting both successes and failures. • Build and maintain code repositories, along with clear documentation and compelling visual outputs. • Identify and define new use cases and assess industry applicability of developed solutions. • Communicate research outcomes through internal presentations at the conclusion of the internship. • Contribute to or lead the preparation of a peer-reviewed publication for an external AI and/or AEC conference.

Key Responsibilities

  • ai prototyping
  • code repos
  • workflow testing
  • use cases
  • research presentation
  • publication prep

What You Bring

• Currently enrolled in a full-time Master’s or Ph.D. program in AI, Computer Science, Architecture, or a related field, with an expected graduation date of December 2026 or later. • Experience with AEC design workflows and design decision-making processes involving competing metrics and trade-offs. • Experience developing AI-driven workflows that coordinate multiple reasoning steps or agents to support complex design decisions, simulations, or data-driven processes in the AEC domain. • Proficiency in Python, including experience integrating AI workflows with AEC or 3D modeling software. • Experience with agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, LangChain, or similar). • Familiarity with AEC design phases, deliverables, and interdisciplinary collaboration. • Experience orchestrating complex, automated design workflows. • Experience with data analysis and visualization. • Demonstrated ability to write clear, well-structured technical documentation or research material.

Requirements

  • phd
  • python
  • aec workflows
  • langchain
  • data viz
  • technical docs

Benefits

The 2026 U.S. internship runs for 12 weeks (May 18 – August 7 or June 15 – September 4) and is fully paid. Interns contribute to meaningful projects, receive mentorship from industry leaders, and participate in tech talks and development activities. Autodesk’s Flexible Workplace approach supports office, remote, and hybrid preferences. Salary is part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package and varies by experience, education, and location. For U.S.-based interns the starting annualized base salary ranges from $47,840‑$95,680 for undergraduate students, $72,800‑$118,500 for Masters/MBA students, and $118,560‑$162,240 for PhD students.
