About the Role
Mortenson is looking for a Safety Engineer I to support its Zero Injury Safety program on construction sites. The role involves interacting with staff at all levels, providing proactive and professional safety leadership while maintaining confidentiality. • Implement and administer site‑specific safety programs and conduct safety orientation and training. • Document safety violations, perform work‑area safety audits, and analyze leading and lagging indicator data. • Record, monitor, and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics; coordinate OSHA reporting and review safety submittals. • Monitor trade‑partner work plans for safety concerns, assist with onsite injury management, and manage Return‑to‑Work assignments. • Organize project safety celebrations, provide safety resources, and evaluate industrial hygiene concerns. • Maintain knowledge of construction safety standards, serve as a safety resource, and ensure proper maintenance of safety equipment and PPE. • Interface with client safety personnel, union representatives, and insurance risk engineers; accompany safety personnel on site tours. • Manage the safety budget, attend or chair safety meetings, and perform additional assigned duties.

What You Bring
The position requires 100% travel on a rotating schedule of three weeks on site followed by five days off, including travel days. It is an on‑site role with no remote work and does not offer visa sponsorship; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Applicants need either a bachelor’s/associate’s degree in occupational safety or a high school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30‑hour training, and at least five years of continuous construction experience. A valid driver’s license, strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to travel up to 100% are also required. • Experience administering safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, developing controls, and contributing to safe work activity plans. • Strong customer service orientation, effective public speaking, presentation, and active listening skills. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety‑related software applications.

Benefits
The base salary ranges from $78,800 to $98,500, with higher rates in select locations, and the role is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
