About the Role

You will operate vehicles in compliance with WM safety rules, OSHA and DOT regulations, perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, report unsafe situations, and collaborate with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiency. While training, you will also serve as an on‑route helper, loading and emptying residential and commercial containers, operating hoisting devices, assisting with backing maneuvers, and handling customer requests. Work is performed outdoors and in a vehicle, with exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and varying weather conditions, and may involve occasional physical effort handling objects. • Operate commercial refuse/recycling vehicle following WM safety, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws. • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections and complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, service interruptions, and customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch. • Participate in all required training programs, briefings, and meetings. • Load and empty residential/commercial containers, operate hoisting devices, and assist with backing maneuvers. • Follow assigned routes, complete end‑of‑day documentation, and support other drivers as needed.

What You Bring

As a Driver Apprentice, you will partner with an experienced WM driver or trainer after obtaining your Commercial Driving Permit, completing the required training to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle for waste collection. The role requires you to be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the United States, hold a valid state driver’s license, pass a drug screen, and be able to meet the physical demands of the job; no prior experience or education is required. A REAL ID or equivalent may be required for travel or access to federal property, and all drivers are expected to operate vehicles safely, reliably, and responsibly within their communities. • Be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the U.S., and hold a valid state driver’s license. • Pass pre‑employment drug screening and meet physical ability requirements. • No prior experience or formal education required.
