About the Role

The Traffic Engineer will join the Traffic and Planning team as a technical resource on a variety of traffic design projects. Responsibilities include preparing signing, pavement marking, signal, lighting, temporary traffic control, and intelligent transportation system (ITS) plans, performing detailed checks, and guiding junior staff and technicians. The engineer will also support project managers with fee proposals, team direction, timely client deliverables, and financial monitoring, and may assist regional offices in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. • Prepare signing, pavement marking, signal, lighting, temporary traffic control, and ITS plans for stand‑alone or multidisciplinary projects. • Perform detailed design checks and mentor junior staff and technicians. • Support project managers with fee proposals, team direction, on‑time client deliverables, and financial monitoring. • Assist regional offices in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio on traffic design projects. • Conduct safety analyses using Highway Safety Software and produce reports using Microsoft Office suite.

What You Bring

Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, eight years of traffic design experience, and a PE license in Pennsylvania or Ohio. Candidates should be familiar with PennDOT, PTC, and ODOT standards, proficient with SignCAD and ORD, and able to prioritize multiple projects. Local candidates are given preference, and an active commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture is required. Required qualifications consist of a bachelor’s degree, professional engineering license for the job location, and hands‑on experience with traffic design using CAD platforms such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Guide Sign. The candidate must be skilled in operational analysis tools (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Aimsun), safety analysis software, and Microsoft Office, with strong verbal and written communication abilities. An attitude that embraces the employee‑owned culture is essential. • Hold a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and at least 8 years of traffic design experience. • Possess a PE license in Pennsylvania or Ohio (or appropriate jurisdiction). • Demonstrate working knowledge of PennDOT, PTC, and ODOT standards and proficiency with SignCAD and ORD. • Exhibit strong multitasking abilities and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously. • Experience with CAD platforms (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Guide Sign) and traffic analysis tools (HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, Aimsun).
