About the Role

Key responsibilities include providing day‑to‑day technical transport planning input, managing project budgets and resources, and leading or supporting transport planning on small to medium projects. You will also mentor Early Career Professionals and help grow commercial skills and business development networks. • Lead transport assessments, travel plans, access and parking strategies, and sustainable/active travel provisions. • Prepare traffic flow data for Transport Assessments and Environmental Statements. • Utilise junction capacity modelling tools (Junctions 10, Linsig) for scenario testing. • Manage budgets, resources and invoicing on small to medium projects. • Supervise conceptual junction designs, including priority schemes, roundabouts and signals. • Communicate effectively with clients, project teams and external stakeholders. • Mentor Early Career Professionals and share technical expertise.

What You Bring

We are hiring a Principal Development Planner with a strong transport planning background to join our Development team in Scotland. The role involves working on commercial, retail and residential projects, developing transport strategies, contributing to masterplans and providing expert witness evidence for both private and public sector clients, within a multi‑disciplinary environment that includes Highways, Services, Structures and Environmental teams. The ideal candidate has experience leading transport assessments, travel plans, access and parking strategies, sustainable and active travel provisions, and is familiar with guidance such as NPPF and DfT Transport Assessment guidelines. Proficiency in traffic flow analysis, junction capacity modelling (e.g., Junctions 10, Linsig), conceptual junction design, and strong communication skills are essential, as is a commitment to mentoring and developing a professional network. Chartered status in a transport‑related discipline is desirable. • Demonstrate proficiency in Excel and Word while building a professional network. • Pursue chartered status in a transport‑related discipline.
