About the Role

The Dispatch role involves communicating with WM drivers to assist with problem resolution while they are on route. The incumbent handles incoming service orders, directs drivers, and resolves service issues, interacting with customers, WM customer service, sales, and operational staff such as route managers and mechanics. All activity is tracked using WM proprietary software, and shift schedules may include overtime and Saturday hours based on site needs. Key responsibilities include working with routing specialists and service departments to optimize complex routes, dispatching drivers using real‑time information on customer needs, driver locations, and loads, and balancing cost with speed of response. The dispatcher fields inbound calls and emails, manages same‑day pick‑up or container delivery requests, initiates outbound calls to resolve on‑site issues, and troubleshoots potential delivery problems before they become service incidents. Additional duties involve recording driver information, communicating with maintenance personnel, serving as an emergency contact, delegating work in a manager’s absence, and acting as an escalation point for other dispatchers. • Dispatch drivers using routing software, balancing cost and response speed. • Field inbound calls and emails, manage same‑day pick‑up and container delivery requests. • Initiate outbound calls to resolve on‑site issues and troubleshoot delivery problems. • Record driver information and communicate updates to maintenance, service, and management teams. • Serve as escalation point and emergency contact, delegating work in manager’s absence. • Train new dispatchers and coordinate projects across commercial, residential, and roll‑off lines.
