About the Role

The New York State Code Enforcement Official administers and enforces the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and local zoning ordinances, ensuring safety through site inspections, building plan reviews, and violation enforcement. Key responsibilities include issuing permits, certificates of occupancy, and violation notices, as well as monitoring construction and addressing code violations. • Conduct site inspections. • Issue permits and certificates of occupancy. • Investigate complaints. • Enforce compliance through violation notices. • Issue building permits. • Monitor construction of permitted projects. • Address code violations. • Maintain records. • Read and interpret construction plans and technical documents; communicate with the public. • Use computer applications for record‑keeping and permit tracking. • Exercise firmness, tact, and impartiality in enforcing regulations.
