About the Role
• Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons. • Implement the pre‑construction quality plan. • Obtain and maintain construction permits; manage fee payments and recurring expenses. • Develop and maintain material tracking, test and inspection listings, concrete placement log, and non‑conformance report. • Manage, create, and distribute contract documents. • Establish handling procedures for electronic documents (RFIs, correspondence). • Incorporate processes for the project closeout phase. • Manage testing and inspection processes for construction quality management. • Implement a three‑phase inspection system. • Establish reporting formats, protocols, schedules, and off‑site testing procedures. • Notify the Project Manager and Superintendent of non‑conforming test results or inspection items. • Manage submittals: set up register, obtain approvals, prepare transmittals, coordinate packaging, review, and processing. • Expedite submittals to align with the project schedule. • Communicate submittal process details to subcontractors and suppliers. • Issue submittal requirement letters. • Provide periodic updates of the submittal register to the customer or architect. • Coordinate subcontractor details: verify insurance, prepare paperwork, request final payment. • Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders. • Define and implement procedures for posting revisions and updates to as‑built documents. • Incorporate subcontractor as‑built documentation into contract updates. • Mentor, manage, and evaluate field engineers. • Determine alternative work methods as needed. • Coordinate safety and compliance for all team members. • Maintain schedule of timelines and ensure completion.

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer I who can interact with staff at all levels in a dynamic environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. The Project Engineer will review, analyze, manage, and resolve field coordination issues with project team members and participants. Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship. Job postings typically remain open a minimum of 5 days and an average of 44 days. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management. • Minimum two years of related construction experience. • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks. • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices. • Teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem‑solving skills. • Positive professional attitude and customer service skills. • Current driver’s license.

Benefits
The base pay range for this role is $84,100‑$113,500, with higher ranges for specific office locations (Denver, Chicago +5%; Seattle, Portland +10%; Washington, D.C. +12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity, and the position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
