About the Role

The Gas Operator is responsible for operating the machines required to trench for natural gas pipelines. Duties include safely digging around underground utilities, installing pipelines in the ditch, and providing sufficient backfill. This role supports the Line team and collaborates with department personnel. • Operate jobsite equipment safely. • Conduct equipment service, safety checks, minor repairs, and fluid inspections. • Load trucks safely and accident‑free. • Monitor pipe laying for hazards, including potential cave‑ins. • Dig safely around live underground and overhead utilities. • Install natural gas pipelines in trenches and backfill adequately.

What You Bring

The position works in a field environment that routinely involves extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and twisting, often in inclement weather such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, or wind. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, have clear vision at 20 feet or 20 inches, demonstrate precise hand-eye coordination, and distinguish colors. The job description may evolve, and management may adjust duties or schedules to accommodate individuals with disabilities. • Minimum: high school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year heavy‑equipment operation experience. • Preferred: 2+ years heavy‑equipment experience, operator qualification, DOT certified flagger, CDL Class A license.
