About the Role

The Gas Operations Technician reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for operating and maintaining the landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS). The GCCS includes extraction wells, piping, and gas conveyance equipment such as fans or blowers, which transport landfill gas (LFG) to a flare for combustion. Proper operation ensures compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. The role involves timely and cost-effective operation of the GCCS, including calibration of electronic data devices, data collection from wellfield and monitoring locations, and execution of a preventative maintenance plan. Technicians also manage liquid-handling pumps, adjust wellfield valves and vacuums, and maintain PVC or HDPE piping systems. Completion of WM Landfill Gas Technician I training and adherence to safety procedures are required, with on-call availability for system malfunctions. • Operate and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal performance. • Calibrate, operate, and maintain electronic data collection devices for LFG optimization. • Collect, enter, and manage data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring sites. • Implement and follow the GCCS preventative maintenance plan. • Operate and maintain liquid management system pumps, troubleshooting and monitoring liquid levels. • Perform wellfield valve and vacuum adjustments, data collection, and maintenance. • Maintain PVC or HDPE piping and associated equipment. • Adhere to health and safety procedures and be available for on‑call GCCS malfunction response.

What You Bring

The position is primarily field-based, with about 90 % of time spent outdoors in various weather conditions and 10 % in an office setting. Work includes exposure to gas plant environments and inclement weather, and the role requires physical stamina for tasks such as pump operation and pipe maintenance. The hourly pay range is $28–$34, dependent on experience and location.
