About the Role

Key responsibilities include integrating EH&S objectives across business functions, providing regulatory expertise, and acting as the primary liaison with government agencies. The manager identifies risks, develops mitigation plans, oversees the EH&S budget, and ensures compliance with air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste and storm‑water permits. Additional duties involve auditing program implementation, leading incident investigations, supervising EH&S specialists, coordinating emergency response plans, and delivering training on safety and environmental topics. • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EH&S programs across all business units. • Provide regulatory expertise and serve as the primary liaison with governmental agencies. • Identify EH&S risks and create mitigation plans aligned with performance and reliability goals. • Manage the EH&S budget and oversee permitting for air emissions, wastewater, hazardous waste, and storm‑water compliance. • Lead audits, inspections, and incident investigations, delivering corrective actions and root‑cause analyses. • Supervise EH&S specialists and interns, and coordinate emergency response and contingency planning. • Design and deliver EHS training for employees, contractors, and visitors on safety and environmental topics. • Oversee workers’ compensation, industrial hygiene programs, and OSHA recordkeeping requirements. • Maintain environmental records, permits, compliance data, and prepare regulatory submission reports. • Chair the plant Safety and Green Team committees to promote sustainability initiatives.

What You Bring

Basic qualifications require a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational safety, engineering, chemistry or a related field, and at least eight years of safety and environmental program experience in a utility or manufacturing setting. Candidates must be familiar with federal, state and local regulations and possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree and certifications such as ERM, CSP or TURP. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, capable of managing multiple tasks, eager to adopt new technologies, and able to work both independently and collaboratively. Physical requirements include passing a pre‑employment drug screen and physical exam, holding a valid driver’s license, and wearing required personal protective equipment. The role demands the ability to work in extreme temperatures, handle dust and hazardous materials, lift up to 50 lb, and operate from ladders, scaffolds, high‑lifts and confined spaces.

The Environment, Health, & Safety (EH&S) Manager leads the establishment, development and management of EH&S programs, reporting to the Director of Health and Safety. Based in Baltimore, MD, the role supports regional sites in Washington, DC; Morgantown, WV; Atlanta, GA and others, requiring 5‑10% travel plus frequent local site visits. This full‑time exempt position offers a salary range of $110‑120K with a 20% bonus target. Benefits comprise 120 hours of paid time off per year, 40 hours of sick leave, 100 % paid parental leave up to 160 hours, seven paid holidays, floating holidays, and a 401(k) plan with matching contributions (100 % of the first 1 % and 50 % of the next 5 %).
