About the Role

Interns will support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills, learn basic metallurgical and process engineering principles, and assist with project research, preliminary design calculations, and analysis. Responsibilities include preparing final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates, collecting and maintaining project documentation, completing training on assigned tasks, and exercising responsible decision‑making in line with WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Support engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills. • Conduct project research and perform preliminary design calculations and analysis. • Prepare final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates. • Collect and maintain project documentation. • Complete training on assigned tasks. • Make responsible decisions regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Follow direction from mentors and managers to execute projects. • Maintain a proven workplace safety record and comply with health, safety, and harassment policies.

The Earth & Environment Team is seeking a full‑time Metallurgical Engineering Intern for Summer 2026 to work from the Lakewood, CO office, targeting individuals currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Process Engineering program (undergraduate, master’s, or PhD) with an anticipated graduation date of August 2026 or later, be at least 18 years old, and demonstrate a strong interest in extractive metallurgical process engineering. Required skills include effective interpersonal and communication abilities, the capacity to follow direction from mentors and managers, basic proficiency in technical writing and office software, a proven safety record, and U.S. work authorization. Preferred qualifications encompass experience in process design, material and energy balances, Process Flow Diagrams, cost estimation, capital budgeting, exposure to various processing operations, interest in commodity flowsheets, and prior internship or leadership experience. • Learn basic metallurgical and process engineering principles. • Enrolled in an accredited Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Process Engineering program with graduation August 2026 or later. • Communicate effectively with engineering and non‑engineering audiences. • Proficient in technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and related tools. • Authorized to work in the United States for the internship duration. • Prefer experience with process design, material and energy balances, and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs). • Prefer ability to perform cost estimation (CAPEX/OPEX) and capital budgeting analyses. • Prefer familiarity with processing operations such as crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching, etc. • Prefer prior internship experience and campus leadership involvement.

Benefits

The internship is part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12‑week engagement scheduled to start on May 18, 2026, with a flexible individual start date. No relocation or housing assistance is provided, and occasional travel may be required depending on project needs. The expected salary for Colorado residents is $22.16 to $30.25 per hour, subject to adjustment based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, and internal equity. WSP USA reserves the right to vary compensation and offers additional benefits in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
