About the Role

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) performs welding inspections and quality verification for Whirlwind Steel’s manufacturing operations, writes and maintains Welding Procedure Specifications, and ensures production welders meet established codes. This role safeguards that fabricated steel components comply with welding codes, customer specifications, and internal quality standards while collaborating with production and quality teams to uphold product integrity and safety. • Qualify welders and machine operators for SAW, FCAW, GMAW, and MCAW processes • Perform visual inspections of welded structural steel components per AWS and code requirements • Verify weld quality, fit‑up, joint preparation, and workmanship throughout fabrication • Interpret welding symbols, blueprints, and project specifications to ensure compliance • Document inspection results accurately and maintain quality records • Support nondestructive testing activities and coordinate with UT/MT providers • Identify and document nonconforming weldments or fabrication issues • Participate in corrective action processes by providing findings and recommendations • Collaborate with production teams to resolve quality concerns without disrupting workflow • Maintain familiarity with Whirlwind’s Quality Systems Manual and ensure procedural adherence • Assist internal and external audits by supplying inspection documentation and technical input • Work efficiently in a fast‑paced production environment while maintaining safety and quality standards

What You Bring

• Hold a current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification • Prefer experience inspecting structural steel fabrication in a manufacturing environment • Possess strong knowledge of AWS D1.1, D1.3, and other applicable welding codes and standards • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and specifications • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally for reporting and documentation • Capable of recruiting, mentoring, and managing inspectors using nondestructive testing methods (UT, MT, PT)
