About the Role

The Transportation Planner role involves providing planning services to municipalities, MPOs, state agencies, and transit authorities, collecting and analyzing data, conducting technical GIS and analytics work, and preparing necessary environmental and technical documents. You will also develop graphic presentations, support community engagement, prepare memoranda and reports, and perform other duties as needed. • Provide community and transportation planning services for cities, counties, MPOs, state transportation agencies, and transit agencies. • Collect and analyze project data, including research, interviews, map reviews, land‑use surveys, and socioeconomic analysis. • Conduct technical analysis using data analytics and GIS, presenting findings in narrative, graphic, and tabular formats. • Prepare documents such as categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, impact studies, and other technical reports. • Develop graphic presentation materials that convey complex data and perform constraints mapping for project documentation. • Support community engagement, public information efforts, meetings, and hearings; participate in workshops to explain proposals and gather feedback. • Prepare technical memorandums, reports, and other project deliverables.

What You Bring

• Master’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field (preferred). • Three or more years of planning experience with a consulting firm or public agency (preferred). • Proficiency with communication software such as PowerPoint, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and similar tools (preferred). • Local candidates preferred (preferred). • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning or a related field (required). • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (required). • Self‑starter with excellent writing and communication skills (required). • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team (required). • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving, and research abilities (required). • Willingness to travel as needed (required). • Commitment to actively participate in HDR’s employee‑owned culture (required).
