About the Role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will join AECOM’s Energy practice to support a multi‑disciplinary design team tackling demanding power generation projects, including the pioneering stellarator fusion plant program. The role offers the flexibility to work remotely or from various Energy offices across the United States. In this position the engineer will lead mechanical design work, coordinate with piping teams, develop equipment layouts, P&IDs, isometrics and tie‑in lists, and provide technical expertise for risk assessments and client‑facing solutions. Responsibilities also include generating deliverables from feasibility through detailed design, creating specifications, supporting construction and commissioning, performing quality‑control reviews, and engaging with vendors, regulators, and contractors. • Design mechanical systems for assigned power generation projects • Lead engineering efforts and ensure deliverable development • Coordinate with piping designers to complete engineering drawings • Develop equipment general arrangements, P&IDs, isometrics, and orthographic drawings • Provide technical expertise for risk assessments and due‑diligence studies • Generate deliverables from feasibility through detailed design phases • Create construction and equipment specifications and material requisitions • Support projects during construction, start‑up, and commissioning from the home office • Conduct quality‑control reviews of work produced by others • Participate in project and client meetings • Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies, and contractors • Assist with internal and external presentations • Travel occasionally to client or project sites

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering with at least six years of relevant experience, preferably in power‑generation facilities. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree, Professional Engineer license, extensive experience with combined‑cycle and nuclear plants, deep knowledge of industry codes, and proficiency with advanced engineering software and collaborative BIM environments. • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of relevant experience • Experience in mechanical engineering for power generation facilities • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) • Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred) • 12+ years experience with power generation facilities (preferred) • 5+ years as technical mechanical lead or engineer of record (preferred) • Design experience on combined‑cycle and nuclear generation stations • Expert knowledge of industry codes and standards (API, ASME, PIP, ANSI, ASTM, etc.) • Expertise specifying rotating and static equipment and piping materials • Familiarity with diverse metallurgy and material properties • Startup and commissioning field experience • Proficiency with engineering software (Thermoflow, Hysys, Caesar II, Pipe‑Flo, AspenTech, Applied Flow Technology) • Experience with collaborative modeling tools (Navisworks, BIM 360) • Demonstrated ability to work in complex, multi‑discipline and remote teams

Benefits
The role is based in New Orleans, LA, with a hybrid work model and a salary range of $135,000‑$165,000 per year. Relocation assistance and sponsorship for U.S. employment authorization are not available.
