About the Role

The Designated Driver Trainer (DDT) is a dual‑role position that combines operating a WM vehicle on an assigned route with providing driver‑training support as needed. The role ensures continuous daily operations while mentoring new hires to drive safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. Key duties include safely operating a vehicle in accordance with WM Safety, OSHA, DOT and all applicable laws, performing standard driver tasks such as pre‑ and post‑trip inspections, and completing waste or recycling collection. The DDT also conducts on‑the‑job training, coaching drivers on vehicle operation, defensive driving, and OBU tablet usage, and retrains drivers reassigned to new routes or with performance issues. The trainer observes drivers, delivers immediate constructive feedback, records progress and areas for improvement, and reports performance data to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager. In addition, the DDT mentors drivers during their transition, promotes WM’s safety culture, and serves as an ambassador for the company’s values. • Operate assigned WM vehicle safely, completing pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and waste/recycling collection. • Deliver on‑the‑job training and coaching on vehicle operation, defensive driving, and OBU tablet usage. • Observe drivers, provide immediate constructive feedback, and assess performance on new routes or after reassignment. • Maintain accurate training records, tracking strengths, improvement areas, and recommended coaching. • Report driver performance metrics to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager. • Mentor drivers during role transition, fostering confidence and skill development. • Promote WM’s safety standards and company values as a brand ambassador.

What You Bring

Required qualifications are a High School diploma or GED, at least two years of experience operating a WM vehicle with a Class A or B CDL and air‑brake endorsement. Preferred qualifications include two years of recent military driving experience and two years of supervising, training, or coaching personnel. The position demands frequent physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching and handling, as well as constant sitting, talking and hearing, in both indoor garage environments and outdoor conditions that may involve inclement weather. Applicants must possess a REAL ID or TSA‑approved alternative for travel or access to federal property, and the role may require occasional air travel for business purposes. • Required: High School diploma/GED, 2 years operating a WM vehicle with a Class A/B CDL and air‑brake endorsement. • Preferred: 2 years recent military driving experience and 2 years supervising or training personnel. • Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, handling, and constant sitting, talking, and hearing in varied indoor and outdoor environments.
