About the Role

The Design Manager role, based in any AECOM office with hybrid work options and travel, oversees colocation and hyper‑scale data center projects from site due diligence and campus planning through detailed design, construction documents, and construction administration. Candidates should have experience in data center design, a background in electrical or mechanical engineering, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Lead data center due diligence and design teams across architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, fire protection, ICT, and BMS/EPMS. • Develop and enforce multi‑site project and program management plans. • Host client and stakeholder meetings; communicate changes and updates throughout projects. • Identify issues early and devise creative solutions. • Prepare technical and financial proposals for new or modified data center designs. • Build and maintain trusted relationships with client stakeholders and buyers.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering and have at least ten years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, professional engineering or architecture licensure, Lean Six Sigma certification, Uptime Institute Tier Professional accreditation, and a strong record of leadership in data center or mission‑critical trade organizations. • Minimum: Bachelor’s in Architecture, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering + 10 years relevant experience. • Preferred: Master’s degree, PE or Architecture license, 12+ years design/PM experience, Lean Six Sigma, Uptime Institute Tier Professional, leadership in data center trade groups. • Strong communication, team leadership, and presentation skills; ability to work in dynamic, time‑sensitive environments with minimal oversight.

Benefits

The position is located in Arlington, VA, with a hybrid work model and an annual compensation range of $190,000 to $240,000. Relocation is not offered, but sponsorship is available for eligible candidates.
