About the Role

The Senior Traffic Engineer role provides key technical and leadership responsibilities for planning, designing, and delivering complex transportation projects. The position leads traffic and highway engineering efforts in the UK while also supporting projects in the US, Canada, and the Middle East. • Lead technical design and oversight of traffic and transportation deliverables. • Review and supervise traffic modelling, simulation, and analytical studies with accurate documentation. • Serve as subject‑matter expert, solving complex issues and proposing innovative solutions. • Plan, assign, and mentor teams of engineers, designers, and technicians. • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams for integrated delivery. • Support project planning, scope definition, schedule development, budget oversight, and risk management; act as Project Manager when required. • Engage clients, agencies, and stakeholders through meetings, presentations, and technical discussions. • Contribute to proposals, fee development, technical approaches, and business development efforts. • Assist in growing HDR UK Transportation business.

What You Bring

• Chartered Engineer status preferred. • Experience with US software packages such as HCS and CORSIM preferred. • Project experience in the UK, Middle East, and North America preferred. • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. • Minimum 10 years’ ITS and traffic engineering experience on urban and rural highways, interchanges, and intersections. • Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) recognized for the job location. • Knowledge of state and federal transportation regulations. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. • Experience with HCS, CORSIM, Synchro/SIM Traffic, and other traffic software packages. • Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team.
