About the Role
Primary duties involve managing specification projects, resolving technical and administrative issues, providing guidance to architectural design firms, reviewing drawings to write and edit specifications, and ensuring compliance with project requirements, institutional guidelines, firm standards, technical conditions, and applicable codes. Responsibilities also include planning and preparing construction specifications for project milestones, preparing procurement and Division 01 General Requirement sections, coordinating consultant technical specifications, and performing product research. The role supports construction administration by reviewing product submittals, evaluating substitution requests, and making recommendations regarding compliance with specifications. It requires the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, work both independently and in a team environment, and host or attend client project discussions while performing other duties as required. • Guide design teams on product selection and prepare/edit construction specifications. • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, institutional guidelines, and project requirements. • Manage specification projects, resolve technical and administrative issues, and coordinate with architects, engineers, and consultants. • Review drawings and develop specifications for all project phases, including procurement and Division 01 General Requirements. • Conduct product research, assist designers with material selections, and stay current on building technologies and code changes. • Support construction administration by reviewing submittals, evaluating substitution requests, and recommending compliance actions. • Communicate with clients, host project discussions, and meet deadlines across multiple simultaneous projects.

What You Bring
ECS is seeking an experienced Specification Writer II to join the Pacific Facilities team in Roseville, CA. The role includes guiding design teams on product selection, preparing and editing construction specifications, ensuring code compliance, and coordinating with architects, engineers, and consultants throughout all project phases. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, has a solid background in architecture or construction, strong technical expertise in specifications writing, and a passion for staying current on building technologies and industry trends. Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED (a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Building Science, or a related field is preferred), six years of architectural or commercial interiors experience, and at least three years of progressive responsibility in writing, editing, and developing AIA MasterFormat specifications. Membership in the Construction Specifications Institute is required, and CDT certification, CCS, LEED AP, or a professional architecture or engineering license are considered a plus. A valid driver’s license is required for company travel. Desired skills and abilities include experience researching product materials and manufacturers, strong knowledge of architectural design, engineering coordination, construction methodology, design trends, building systems, and supplier appropriateness. The candidate should be proficient in reading construction drawings, programs, criteria documents, details, and specifications, and have advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Bluebeam Revu & Studio, and Adobe Acrobat; AutoCAD and Revit proficiency are a plus. • Hold a high school diploma/GED (bachelor’s preferred); 6 years architectural/commercial interior experience; 3 years writing AIA MasterFormat specs. • CSI membership required; CDT, CCS, LEED AP, or professional licensure considered a plus. • Proficient in Microsoft Office, advanced Word, Bluebeam Revu/Studio, Adobe Acrobat; AutoCAD/Revit proficiency advantageous.

The expected pay range for this role is $73,000 to $97,500 per year, with salary determined by location and individual qualifications.
