About the Role

HDR Engineering seeks a Substation Engineering Manager/Team Lead (EM/TL) to lead technical design and construction of high‑voltage substation projects. The EM/TL will partner with a Project Manager, guide the technical team, and oversee execution of project deliverables while supervising junior engineers and support staff. • Partner with the Project Manager to lead the technical team and execute project deliverables. • Develop and implement a technical project execution plan. • Assign tasks and provide technical guidance to engineers and designers. • Support scope, schedule, and budget management, including proposals, WBS, risk mitigation, and change control. • Hire, mentor, train, and supervise junior engineers, EITs, and design staff. • Conduct quality checks and reviews of deliverables per HDR’s Quality Management System. • Lead multiple projects simultaneously across different locations. • Pursue technical expertise development through training, seminars, and collaboration with senior engineers. • Create technical papers or presentations to showcase HDR capabilities at industry events. • Participate in project reviews as needed.

What You Bring

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, possess a PE license, and have extensive design experience with high‑voltage switchyards and substations of 230 kV and above. Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI standards, and industry‑standard design software, along with prior consulting and supervisory experience, is preferred. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, at least seven years of relevant experience, and strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Candidates must be able to manage multiple assignments, work both independently and in teams, and actively contribute to HDR’s employee‑owned, inclusive culture.
