About the Role

The Landfill Gas Technician I reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for operating and maintaining the landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS). The GCCS includes extraction wells, piping, and gas conveyance equipment such as fans or blowers, and channels the collected landfill gas to a flare for combustion. Proper operation ensures compliance with state and federal environmental regulations. Key duties involve calibrating and managing electronic data‑collection devices to maximize gas extraction, collecting and entering data from wellfield and environmental monitoring sites, and executing the preventative maintenance plan. The technician troubleshoots and maintains liquid‑management pumps, performs valve and vacuum adjustments, and repairs PVC or HDPE piping as needed. Completion of WM Landfill Gas Technician I training, adherence to health and safety procedures, and availability for on‑call malfunction response are also required. • Operate and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) to ensure regulatory compliance. • Calibrate and manage electronic data collection devices to optimize LFG extraction. • Collect, enter, and interpret data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring locations. • Execute preventative maintenance, including pump troubleshooting, valve/vacuum adjustments, and PVC/HDPE piping repairs. • Complete WM Landfill Gas Technician I training and follow all health and safety procedures. • Provide on‑call response for GCCS malfunctions.

What You Bring

Candidates must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Preferred qualifications include experience in environmental fieldwork, construction, or mechanical/electrical roles, familiarity with gas collection systems, pumps, blowers, flare systems, and PVC/HDPE piping, as well as proficiency with data‑logging and computer data entry. Mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently in field settings, and a technical or trade‑school background in related disciplines are highly valued. The role requires both indoor work in the gas plant and outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and inclement weather. Employees may need to travel for business purposes and must obtain a REAL ID or TSA‑approved alternative.
