About the Role
The primary function of the role is to apply, remove, and repair insulation on equipment, pipes, ductwork, and other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, storage tanks, and vessels in order to control noise and maintain appropriate temperatures. Key responsibilities include reading blueprints and work orders, selecting the correct insulation materials, preparing work sites, measuring and cutting insulation, installing protective sheet metal, sealing surfaces with covers, sealants, or tape, handling hazardous waste, and maintaining accurate records while adhering to safety and project rules. • Read and interpret blueprints, instructions, and documentation to plan work activities. • Select and cut appropriate insulation materials (fiberglass, foam, Styrofoam, cork, urethane) based on heat retention, location, and equipment use. • Prepare surfaces and install insulation, then cover, seal, or finish with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement, or asphalt mastic. • Fit insulation around obstructions and install protective sheet metal with screws to guard against weather and damage. • Handle hazardous waste and may remove or seal old asbestos insulation following safety procedures. • Maintain tools, equipment, and records; perform site clean‑up and housekeeping tasks. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, wearing required personal protective equipment. • Apply shop mathematics, visualize three‑dimensional plans, and work safely at heights. • Perform frequent physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50 lb, climbing, balancing, and reaching.

What You Bring
The Journeyman position requires at least three years of documented field experience in a chosen craft discipline, the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation, and the capability to plan and perform work activities independently. Certified Journeymen may hold NCCER credentials, and Leadmen provide leadership and guidance to crew members while assisting the Foreman. Job requirements emphasize precision, use of shop mathematics, proper tool selection, visualizing three‑dimensional plans, making decisions based on measurable criteria, and the ability to work at heights without fear. A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required, along with relevant experience and the ability to follow established guidelines under supervision.
