About the Role
The incumbent will collaborate with engineering and design teams to assemble comprehensive design packages, perform data analysis and calculations for substations, review vendor documentation, and support proposal, estimating, procurement, and construction activities. Additional duties include mentoring junior staff, coordinating cross‑disciplinary efforts, and ensuring construction aligns with engineering drawings. • Conduct time‑domain simulations (TOV, harmonics) using PSCAD. • Perform phasor‑domain studies with ETAP and PSSE. • Analyze data and calculate designs for substations up to 500 kV. • Review and approve vendor drawings and test reports. • Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction phases. • Mentor and coach junior engineers on complex projects. • Develop and refine studies methodology aligned with customer and Mortenson best‑practice standards. • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to deliver projects on schedule. • Verify that field construction matches electrical design drawings. • Assist in implementing and maintaining QA/QC processes.

The position is open in Minneapolis, MN; Fargo, ND; San Antonio, TX; and Denver, CO. Candidates must hold a Professional Engineering (PE) license and preferably a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program. Required experience includes at least ten years in system studies, with four years focused on time‑domain simulation, and solid knowledge of PSCAD, harmonic analysis, and power engineering principles.
