About the Role
The Transport business unit creates and delivers transport solutions for cities, regions and asset owners worldwide, covering the entire project cycle from business case development to infrastructure delivery and maintenance, and contributes to the Global Transport Sector Strategy. The role of Transport / Senior Transport Planner is based in one of the northern offices and involves leading the development of transport policy, strategy and business cases, managing workstreams, mentoring junior staff, engaging with clients and stakeholders, and supporting business development and regional transport agendas.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate will have 5–7+ years of post‑graduate experience in transport planning, a strong track record in shaping transport policy and business cases, and a collaborative mindset for delivering complex, high‑profile projects. Mott MacDonald does not provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship following the UK Government changes in April 2024, but welcomes applicants who are eligible for other immigration routes that do not require sponsorship. • Degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Engineering, Economics, Urban Planning or equivalent. • Member (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body such as CIHT, CILT, TPS or ICE, aiming for chartered status. • Demonstrated experience in transport policy and strategy, business case development, transport economics, scheme appraisal or sustainable transport planning. • Excellent numerical and analytical skills; proficient in spreadsheet‑based data analysis and economic appraisal following TAG and HM Treasury Green Book guidance. • Strong report writing and verbal communication; ability to present complex information clearly to clients and colleagues. • Experience contributing to successful bids and tenders, showing commercial awareness and client engagement capability. • Desirable: MSc or postgraduate qualification in a transport‑related subject. • Desirable: Project management experience. • Desirable: Better Business Cases qualification. • Desirable: Interest or qualification in urban design and major movement studies. • Desirable: Knowledge of the North‑West and/or North‑East regional transport and regeneration market.
