About the Role
Your daily duties include laying out borings and test pits using conventional surveying and GPS, performing hand‑auger borings, DCP testing, soil logging, and other geotechnical field activities. In the office you classify drill samples, reduce GPS and geotechnical data for use in reports, and may handle administrative tasks or support the construction‑materials testing department. Under the guidance of project managers you conduct routine field and laboratory tests, assist with calculations, data reduction, drafting, and maintain regular communication with site contractors and team members. • Layout boreholes and test pits using surveying and GPS equipment. • Perform hand‑auger borings, DCP testing, soil logging, and other geotechnical field work. • Classify and document drill‑core samples and reduce GPS/geotechnical data for reporting. • Conduct laboratory and on‑site tests of soil, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and steel. • Communicate daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers to coordinate activities. • Assist with calculations, data reduction, and drafting of test results as needed. • Participate in department administrative duties and construction‑materials testing as assigned. • Follow safety protocols while working in varied weather, noisy, and elevated environments.

What You Bring
The role requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions—wet, humid, extreme heat or cold—and in noisy, dusty environments, with occasional exposure to heights and precarious locations. Physical demands include long periods of standing, climbing, crouching, and lifting up to 40 lb repeatedly, up to 60–80 lb frequently, and occasionally over 100 lb. Travel may involve driving long distances and occasional overnight stays, with potential weekend or overtime work. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED; a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program is preferred. The position is open to candidates with 0–2 years of experience and the ability to repeatedly lift 40–70 lb and occasionally 85 lb to waist height. • Travel to multiple construction sites, often requiring overtime or weekend work.
