About the Role
Based in Austin, TX, the Diesel Mechanic role involves maintaining and repairing the fleet of trucks and equipment that serve over 20 million customers across the United States. You will work with modern tools and procedures on diesel and, at some locations, CNG trucks, ensuring reliable service for the community. • Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems • Estimate time and material costs for repairs and new parts • Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs) • Respond to emergency breakdown service calls • Conduct safety checks on vehicles • Complete paperwork documenting parts usage and repair times • Assist senior mechanics with project work • Review, complete, or assign repairs from Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports • Maintain a clean, safe work area per Corporate/OSHA standards • Work in indoor garage/shop/gas plant and outdoor conditions including inclement weather, heat, and humidity

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least two years of relevant diesel fleet experience, a valid driver’s license with a clean record, be over 18, and be legally eligible to work in the United States. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, pass a pre‑employment drug screen and physical, and thrive as a collaborative, independent problem‑solver is essential. WM emphasizes safety and compliance with corporate and OSHA standards, requiring a clean and organized work area. The position is full‑time with a consistent schedule: Monday through Friday and every third Saturday, from 1:30 pm to 1:30 am. Work is performed in a repair/maintenance shop on the Austin site, providing stable hours that support work‑life balance. Compensation includes a starting hourly wage of $28‑$31 plus a $3 shift differential, a tool allowance up to $2,000, a $250 boot allowance, and comprehensive health coverage (dental, vision, prescription) effective day one.
