About the Role
Daily tasks include maintaining boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, and building systems, as well as repairing plumbing, structural, fire, life‑safety, and control components. The engineer will clean, inspect, calibrate, and replace parts to keep systems at optimal performance, perform complex procedures for steam boilers, lab utilities, emergency generators, and propane vaporizers, and conduct regular tours of plant and utility rooms. Work orders, logs, and documentation are reviewed and entered into the CMMS, and an apprenticeship logbook records projects and skills learned. • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, chillers, HVAC and building equipment. • Repair plumbing, structural, fire, life‑safety, and control systems. • Clean, inspect, calibrate, and replace parts to ensure optimal system performance. • Perform complex procedures for steam boilers, lab utilities, emergency generators, and propane vaporizers. • Conduct scheduled tours of boiler, chiller, lab utility, cooling tower, generator, switchgear, and air‑handling rooms. • Review and document work orders, logs, and forms in the CMMS daily. • Maintain an apprenticeship logbook of projects and skills learned.

What You Bring
The Stationary Engineer role is a third‑shift position focused on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across all systems. Candidates must demonstrate technical expertise in at least one craft area—electrical, HVAC, piping/plumbing, or central utility plant operations—and be multi‑skilled in other disciplines to complete daily and weekly assignments. Applicants need a high‑school diploma or GED, strong communication and computer skills, and must have passed the Local 39 apprentice exam or meet IUOE Local 39 apprenticeship criteria. Preferred qualifications include EPA Universal certification, a Stationary Engineer license, and experience in a commercial or industrial environment. The position offers an estimated salary of $149,760 per year, is located on‑site in San Jose, CA, works the third shift, and does not provide visa sponsorship. • Hold high‑school diploma/GED with strong communication and computer skills. • Pass Local 39 apprentice exam or meet IUOE Local 39 apprenticeship standards. • Preferred: EPA Universal certification, Stationary Engineer license, commercial/industrial experience.
