About the Role
The role involves applying, removing, and repairing insulation on various mechanical systems such as equipment, pipes, ductwork, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and vessels to control noise and maintain temperature. Work includes selecting appropriate insulation materials, preparing surfaces, installing protective sheet metal, and sealing insulated surfaces with covers, sealants, or tape. • Read and interpret blueprints, instructions, and documentation to plan work. • Select and calculate quantities of insulation materials (fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, urethane) based on heat retention, location, surface, shape, and equipment use. • Transport materials and set up work sites. • Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces and access holes using plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement, or asphalt mastic. • Fit insulation around obstructions and shape protective coverings as needed. • Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws to protect insulation from weather and damage. • Measure and cut insulation using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors. • Prepare surfaces by applying adhesives, cement, asphalt, or attaching metal pins. • Secure insulation with preformed covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape using staple guns, trowels, paintbrushes, or caulking guns. • Follow hazardous waste handling guidelines and safely remove or seal old asbestos insulation when required. • Complete records, maintain tools and equipment, and perform cleanup and housekeeping tasks. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules, wearing required personal protective equipment. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems and ensure accuracy. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria.

What You Bring
The position is for a Journeyman Insulation Technician with at least three years of documented field experience in the chosen craft. Candidates must be capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, instructions, and other documentation, and able to plan and execute work independently. The job requires precise adherence to standards, use of shop mathematics, selection of proper tools, and the ability to visualize three‑dimensional objects from plans. Employees must make decisions based on measurable criteria and perform tasks at heights when required. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, occasional sitting, and the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lb. Workers frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and handle materials, with some tasks performed constantly. • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lb repeatedly.
