About the Role
The role involves developing construction documents, assisting with geometric highway design, performing material quantity takeoffs, and using CAD/CAE tools to bring project designs to life. Interns will also collaborate with designers, drafters, and engineers, providing technical guidance and supporting various project tasks. • Create construction documents such as drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. • Assist in geometric design of highways, including horizontal/vertical alignment, cross‑sections, super‑elevations, and grading plans. • Perform material quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and field surveys. • Apply CAD/CAE software to develop and refine project designs. • Provide technical guidance to CAD designers, drafters, and engineering team members. • Collaborate with project stakeholders to support additional engineering tasks as needed.

What You Bring
Parsons is hiring a Transportation Engineering Intern for its Centreville, VA team, starting summer 2026. The intern will work with world‑class transportation professionals on major regional and large‑scale engineering projects, gaining hands‑on experience in transportation infrastructure. Candidates must be enrolled in a bachelor's or master’s program in civil engineering or a related field with at least a 3.0 GPA. Strong oral and written communication, teamwork, leadership, and organizational skills are required, and familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD or MicroStation is a plus. • Enrolled in a civil engineering (or related) bachelor’s or master’s program with a minimum 3.0 GPA. • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities. • Exhibit self‑motivation, flexibility, and excellent organizational skills. • Possess working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD tools (preferred).
