Job Highlights
About the Role
Key duties include designing high‑voltage products, performing dielectric and mechanical calculations and simulations, planning and executing type‑development tests, and conducting design reviews such as DFMEA, DFM and DFA. The engineer will create technical reports, development and analysis documentation, and ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, ANSI and other relevant standards. Additional responsibilities cover root‑cause analysis, product harmonisation, upgrades, maintenance of HV switchgear, and adherence to Hitachi Energy’s core values of safety and integrity. • Design and develop high‑voltage instrument transformer and disconnector products. • Perform dielectric and mechanical calculations, simulations, and type‑development tests. • Conduct DFMEA, DFM, DFA design reviews and prototype/testing of disconnectors. • Prepare technical documentation, including reports, assembly and test instructions, and specifications. • Lead root‑cause analysis of product failures and implement corrective actions. • Ensure compliance with IEC/IEEE/ANSI/ISO standards and internal regulations. • Manage product change processes, BOM, GD&T, and tolerance stack‑up analysis. • Lead projects and collaborate with global multidisciplinary teams.

What You Bring
The R&D Engineer will join the Instrument Transformer & Disconnector product lines within the High Voltage Products business unit. The role requires a strong electro‑mechanical design background, analytical and project‑management skills, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, multicultural environment with excellent communication. Candidates should hold a B.Tech or M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and have 5‑10 years of experience in high‑voltage switchgear design, preferably with instrument transformers or disconnectors. Proficiency with 3D CAD/PLM tools (Creo, Windchill, SAP) and FEA software (Ansys, COMSOL, Abaqus, etc.) is required, as is hands‑on experience in drawing, BOM, GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis. Leadership or project‑management experience, knowledge of product change management, and familiarity with IEC/IEEE/ANSI/ISO/DIN standards are essential, along with strong problem‑solving abilities and fluency in English. • Utilize 3D CAD/PLM tools (Creo, Windchill, SAP) and FEA software (Ansys, COMSOL, Abaqus).
