About the Role

The Automation Engineer (AE) will support the site maintenance team to ensure optimal performance of material handling equipment (MHE) control systems, including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, labeling systems, scales, HMI systems, and control cabinets. Working in a clean, modern facility, the AE will troubleshoot, modify, and commission hardware and software, act as first‑level escalation for automation issues, and collaborate with technicians, vendors, and operations leadership on new technology installations and capital projects. • Promote a safe working environment by adhering to all safety procedures. • Guide maintenance of material handling control systems, industrial motor drives, servo drives, and electrical distribution. • Troubleshoot and modify PLC/PC controller software (Allen Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix) using Rockwell tools and industrial networks (Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, AS‑I). • Serve as first‑level escalation for automation issues and coordinate with vendors or network support to restore equipment operation. • Apply subject‑matter expertise to maximize system utilization and improve equipment reliability. • Monitor MHE performance metrics and collaborate with mechatronics technicians to resolve electrical problems. • Conduct control‑system assessments and support capital‑project technology installations as the technical consultant. • Communicate technical issues, project timelines, and production impacts to operations, leadership, and maintenance teams. • Perform physical tasks including overhead reach, kneeling, squatting, climbing ladders, using aerial lifts, and lifting up to 50 lb. • Walk 6–12 miles daily across departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work.

What You Bring

Qualified candidates should have at least three years of experience (or a relevant degree plus one year) in programming and commissioning HMIs, PLCs, VFDs, and SCADA systems, as well as familiarity with mechanical and electrical drawings and conveyor/sortation equipment. Preferred qualifications include an associate or bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, four or more years of electrical or control‑systems experience, and demonstrated leadership or project‑management skills. The position requires physical capabilities such as reaching overhead, kneeling, squatting, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lb, and walking 6–12 miles per day while wearing required PPE in a warehouse environment with fluctuating temperatures.
