About the Role

The Mechanical Control Units Design Engineer is a full‑time, hybrid position located in Indianapolis, IN. The role involves developing control system hardware requirements and guiding Rolls‑Royce‑approved suppliers through detailed design to ensure that the delivered hardware meets all technical and program specifications. The position focuses on aftermarket support, including field investigations, processing design changes, and evaluating non‑conforming hardware. The engineer works within a small team, interfacing with external suppliers and internal engine program teams to deliver hardware and associated documentation. • Develop control system hardware requirements and ensure compliance with technical and program mandates. • Guide approved suppliers through detailed design processes for mechanical control units. • Coordinate with multiple suppliers to resolve technical, manufacturing, and supply‑chain issues quickly. • Investigate in‑service issues, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions. • Review and disposition non‑conforming material, driving cost and reliability improvements. • Advocate for component suppliers during internal gated design reviews and new qualification efforts.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, be U.S. citizens, and have at least one year of experience in mechanical design or control systems. Preferred qualifications include two or more years of mechanical design experience, expertise in control‑systems hardware design, change and risk management, root‑cause analysis, and knowledge of RTCA/DO‑160 and MIL‑STD‑810 testing standards. The role offers a competitive salary range of $70,629 to $114,772, a discretionary bonus, comprehensive benefits, a hybrid work model, and relocation assistance. • Own performance and reliability of a package of mechanical control units on an existing platform. • Minimum 1+ year experience in mechanical design or control systems; Bachelor’s degree required; U.S. citizenship mandatory. • Preferred 2+ years mechanical design experience, control‑systems hardware design, change and risk management, and root‑cause analysis. • Knowledge of RTCA/DO‑160 and MIL‑STD‑810 environmental testing standards.
